Petone Beach

Today Kowhai syndicate went to Petone Beach to clean up all the rubbish.  First we listen to Miss Postma explain the rules of our trip and then we ate our lunch.  Next it was time for us to start our activities.  We started on the playground and got to make some kites.  After that we went down to the beach to do a scavenger hunt.  We had to some shells, wood and all sorts of different things.  "It was fun" said Sophie.  Next we went to see Miss Postma and helped her clean up all the rubbish from around the beach.  We found heaps of rubbish!  Sam and Zion found a big hole full of rubbish! We felt sad that the rubbish was on the beach but very proud of ourselves for picking it up.  Finally it was time for the last activity we made some very impressive sandcastles with Mrs Renfrew.  Before we went back to school we had a yummy lemonade ice block.  What a great day!

Fractions with Room 1

"Yum" said Sophia as she took a large bite of her pizza.  On Friday Room 1 and Room 6 made pizzas.  First we got some bread and spread tomato sauce over the bread.  Next we sprinkled some cheese on top.  Then put them into the oven to cook.  Some of us only put cheese on top and some of us just wanted tomato sauce.  Finally it was time to eat them.  Before we could eat them we cut them in half or quarters.  They were delicious!  Kei te pai!

Letter from Denmark

Yesterday afternoon Room 1 and Room 6 had a special delivery from Zion and Zeke’s grandmother all the way from Denmark.  She sent us some photos and videos of when Zion and Zeke were little.  They were playing in the snow.  We saw them going sledding down a big hill and having snowball fights!  Their grandmother also sent us some lollies from Denmark.  They were called School Chalk and looked just like chalk!  They tasted like strong liquorish.  We all tried the new lollies.  Most people really liked them but some people didn’t.  The teachers loved them!  Today we wrote some thank you letters to Zion and Zeke’s grandmother.

One of our Super Star readers brought in his favourite story to school and read it to Room 6 AND Room 1.  He did a FANTASTIC job!  We love listening to stories.  Can you bring in your favourite story to read  with the class?

Super reading!
